I have learnt a lot from both being overweight and from the road to losing it. I learnt that we see what we expect to see, that fat has a purpose and that being slim means nothing. I learnt that people can be kinder than you expect, that an individual can be stronger than an army, and that we should never, ever be scared of food. To be scared of food is to be scared of living. To put limits on what food we eat is to put limits on living. Be proud of not being afraid. People who have been or who are overweight are some of the most compassionate, sensitive, insightful, soulful, understanding, beautiful people around because they have touched darkness and they have felt things most people never get to feel. When these people start living and stop hiding only great things can happen because they bring that greatness into a world that desperately needs it. NEVER lament your body or your weight; it is your greatest teacher. It will teach you things that some of the greatest minds in the world will never be able to tell you.
The greatest lesson being overweight taught me is that living can’t be put on hold. Living in this world is hard if we let it be. At first glance, there may seem to be more bad than good and to a mind weakened by life that can be overwhelming. But life doesn’t have to happen to us, we can happen to life. We decide what every moment can be. We decide what everything we see means to us. Truly living is about you taking on life and creating it, you waking up each day and choosing to make it for you.
The greatest lesson my weight loss has taught me is that perfection is bollocks. It is a disease that can literally kill us. It never stops once you let it take hold and to give up your brilliant mind to such an unworthy goal is a waste. Perfection limits our lives and it is as meaningless as a weight goal. Specifics stop nature; they stop opportunity and creativity because they demand everything to be a certain way. Choose no limits, no specifics, just living.
